Season 77 was probably one of the worst starts for the Tigresses. They easily won against UE on opening day but lost all four of their succeeding games. Despite a strong showing during the off season league, UST can’t seem to pull themselves together and struggled at the start of the tournament. UST fans lambasted the veteran players for their lackluster performances and called for a change in the coaching staff of the women’s team. The Lady Bulldogs on the other hand, had a roller coaster start. Being one of the early favorites and a shoe-in for the final four but failed to win crucial matches against top seeded teams. Maybe it could be considered under performing on their end. When the game resumed after the holidays, Coach Roger Gorayeb took over the coaching duties.
It wasn’t really an exciting match as the Tigresses and Lady Bulldogs exchanged error after error. Both teams must have been rusty and were shaking off their holiday hangovers. Still it was worth watching UST’s super rookie, EJ Laure, who had been performing really well during the pre season tournaments… plus another rookie and beach volleyball champ, Cherry Rodina who doesn’t seem to run out of energy even in the sidelines. In the end it was, the NU that prevailed over UST.
It’s hard to imagine UST, with their popular veterans, Pam Lastimosa, Mela Tunay, Jessey de Leon, Ria Meneses, Alex Cabanos, at the bottom half of the standings. Hoping they bounce back in time.
